| Water Containers |
| The Sarajevo List defines this as an urgent item to obtain. There is a strong preference for hard clear plastic containers. Obviously you need to drink water to stay alive. A clear container does have the advantage of being able to see any obvious water contamination |
| Shown are some equipment options for various types of water containers. |
| Rothco Canteen | Coleman Military Canteen with cover |
Water Bottle Tablets |
| 589 Canteen | Steel Water Bottle | 2 Quart Canteen |
| Canteens and modern sport bottles are ways of carrying moderate quantities of water and provide a naturally refillable container for your water needs. These have the advantage of being easily portable and distributable. Canteens usualy have belt strap systems on their carrying cases to easily attach them to a pack or a tactical vest. | ||
| Steel Water Bottles | Anti Microbe Collapsable Water Container | |
| The Item on the right is out of stock although you may want to find a similar item as this type of water container is exceptionally portable for the volume of water it is capable of containing | ||
| Collapsable water carriers have the advantage of being compact when not in use. Handles are provided to increase portability. The advantages are in storage as well as built in anti-microbe technologies. It may be easier to load something like this into a secondary pack rather than to carry it independently. Puncture resistance is not as good in this type of system, so they should be handled with care, particularly if a lot of usage is expected out of them. This is an alternative to a self contained system such as the camelbak camel pack featured below. | ||
| Camel Pack | Camelbak Cleaning Tabs | |
| The Camelbak system is ideal for large capacity water runs where comfort of a backpack style setup will make the process of transporting and storing water supplies easier | ||
| Camelback Hydration carrier with 100 oz capacity | To avoid a buildup of stagnant residue in your camelback these tabs can be useful | |

However if you possess water filters or purification devices as suggested, and properly boil your water prior to using, I don't see any real advantage to limiting yourself in this way. Metal canteens have served militaries for a long period of time. Recent advances include collapsable water bladders which have increased portability characteristics. It strikes me that the clear container may also be a cultural thing that arises during shortage making rationing more practical. The real reason may well be to discourage you from using the fragile materials of glass, ceramics or other non-durable materials. With the right equipment in most environments you will probably not find yourself dependent on others for water supplies. Anyhow, if its durable, sanitary and is able to hold water it should be good. Why you need water Water and hydration supplies are the most essential thing you will need. The human body has an extremely low tolerance to dehydration as it is composed mostly of water. Water is definitely a priority over food for immediate survival purposes. Having a container is vital as you may only have temporary access to a water supply. DO NOT OVERLOOK THIS SURVIVAL ITEM |
