For immediate survival information, the SAS survival guide is one of the best practical manuals to staying alive in any climate under any circumstances. It is recommended that you get a copy of this and put it in a waterproof plastic bag and place it in your pack immediately after you finish reading it. |

| Other books are geared towards immediate or long term survival situations. Each is a great collection to your personal knowledge base and book collection. The boy scout handbook is utilitarian enough that it was among the first books to become unavailable in Sarajevo. Having read both, I would recommend the SAS guide by a considerable margin. Both books are useful however. |
