Emergency Cooking
Cooking provides sustenance and calories which can be used to get things done.  Hot food is universally in demand.    Filtered water can make cooking safer and tastier.   As supplies increase in scarcity the food that lasts the longest is generally that which stores well.  In many cases these are canned goods.

A can opener is very high demand, and makes life much easier.   They can be found on survival knives or as stand alone items.   A good manual can opener will last a long time and is difficult to replace.    Since plastic wrapped pre-packaged foods of the types found in grocery stores often have a short shelf life, the can opener is second only to a water filter in demand.

Tools for cooking and preparing food are very useful, and when the manufacturing lines roll to a halt, you will be glad to be in possession of cookware.   Portable cookware is lightweight and space efficient and is very useful when traveling away from your ops base.   Cook stoves and grills can handle much of the cooks needs, if available, but pots and pans can  boil water.   When city sanitation systems fail, water is a very important commodity, particularly in dryer climates or regions where water based insects, such as mosquitos are common.

Regardless of what foods you have available, you will want a way to cook them, as microwave ovens aren't likely to be an option.     Disposable plates are a pure luxury, but they do reduce the need to use water.   Ultimately though, being able to cook means being able to eat, and having the right tools is something that should be part of even a midsized go kit.
