| The need for shelter is very high on the fundamental survival list. Without shelter, a person is at the mercy of the elements. Superior shelters, such as houses tend to provide the best protection. Construction materials and repair materials tend to be consumed quickly when a society is faced with a resource supply situation. Shelter extends to protection while sleeping, which typically happens at night. When a permanant base of operations is not possible due to an event such as a natural disaster, those that are well prepared can take shelter with them in the form of tents, improvised building materials and sleeping bags. In areas which become structurally devestated, lightweight portable sleeping devices such as cots and inflatable mattresses provide a comfortable place to sleep by providing mobile beds. These can be rapidly deployed and are far superior to sleeping on what may be cold wet ground. Items such as insulation, and fasteners are useful for quickly constructing makeshift camps of almost any size. The need to obtain shelter is as old as cavemen and has been a fundamental part of the human lifestyle for as long as most people can remember in history. Shelter is the first foundation of civilization, whether a group is nomadic or is settled by a quality resource location. The value of shelter construction devices and building materials is often under appreciated until repairs are needed. When this type of event goes down, preperation gives a significant edge. Shelter constructon is important enough that a number of tools for this purpose are also incredibly high demand items. |
