| wool socks information |
| The choice for wool socks is much like the choice for wool hats. Feet are in contact with the cold earth especially during snow season and while hiking through wet, boggy or otherwise damp terrain. Wool is a natural insulator that performs well when wet. While many prefer polypropylene or polypropelyne and wool combinations, the wool sock is a time tested and rugged solution. Wool socks are relatively easy to repair if properly equipped with a sewing needle and can be wrung out by the fire if they become damp. While feet in wet wool may get somewhat soggy, they will remain warm under most conditions as wool has a strong tendancy to retain heat. Wool is quite stretchable and a foot can usually find a way to fit into even a mis-sized sock, although that is less than optimal, however it is an advantage that wool has over other materials. |
