| Emergency Illumination |
| Candles are a traditional and effective source of lighting and for storing flame. Emergency usage candles are not dependent on the power grid. With a good candle lantern, candles have long been used for a low tech form of mobile illumination. A candle can provide fire for starting larger fires, standing vigil, ceremonial usage and most importantly as a reuseable source of light. Modern candles such as those seen below can use long lasting materials which burn without creating an alerting scent or odor. A large supply of candles can create lighting over a fairly extensive area and can be used indoors and outdoors except in windy and wet conditions, which require the candle to be appropriately housed. Often a candle will be available long after flashlights and batteries have been used up, by keeping a single candle burning you can ensure that you have the source for rapid construction of a fire. In non-emergency situations candles are well known for creating an intimate and pleasurable ambience, although for emergency purposes a candle is just a match strike away from saving both matches and providing a continuous light source. |
