Fuel cannisters
Various portable fuel systems including propane and butane systems require a fuel supply to operate. This type of system is generally envisioned as a short term solution unless large quantities of fuel are availble. Emphasis is on lightweight and portable fuel systems. Propane heaters, cookstoves, lanterns and other devices generally require a fuel system.
There is a lot to be said for selecting a system which uses a uniform type of fuel and purchasing significant quantities of that type. This allows for interchangeability, as each device won't be limited to a specific and likely difficult to replace fuel source.
The greatest advantage of having your fuel needs met by a single type of fuel is clearly in the ability to bulk purchase the fuel containers that you require. Generally this tactic is best if you are establishing a long term stronghold and don't think you will need to have high mobility. Even if you have a secure position as your primary base of operations, there are advantages to having portable fuels for either specific expeditions or in the event of a necessary evacuation.
In general the best devices are those which can operate on multiple fuel sources, as these are the most adaptable to varying resource situations. If you are operating a permanent installation then the fuel source should be one that you have properly supplied large tanks, such as a high capacity propane tank and delivery system. |
