Equipment List for a changing world

The page you are viewing is a discussion of the general contents and history of the items on the top 100 survival list of emergency items.  Below this graphic is the story of how this survival list came together and why its important to know about.

ORIGINAL LIST SEQUENCE

This list of vital equipment, is well known in survivalist and doomer circles. These are the top 100 items selected by a person caught in the Sarajevo-Bosnian conflict, and is known for that reason as the Sarajevo List.

I have used it as a personal checklist and guide, as have many others who are interested in emergency preparedness.   I was inspired enough to create a visual version of that list for the use of both myself and others.  This page is designed to explain the history of the list and why it is important.

This list was created during the Bosnian-Serbian conflict by a woman living in that region.  This list frequently surfaces on Reddit, (the now defunct and sadly gone) Latoc, and other sites that have been tracking  the current economic situation.
Preparedness

Emergency preparedness is essential, but identifying the equipment you need and where to locate it is a time consuming search.  This site exists to increase awareness of the list, and what people find truly important when luxuries such as continous power supplies and well stocked stores suddenly vanish.  This famous list comprises the first 100 things to become extremely scarce when armed conflict overturned the lives of everyone in the region, turning off the supply chains, power supplies and ability to gather resources that people in a modern urban society had forgotten about.   This sudden dose of realism quickly showed what had meaning and what was merely luxury.

Each item on the list has been identified and presented in a wide ranging interpretation.  The links lead to pages that are places where you can get the equipment you need to make it through the type of circumstances that lead to the original list's creation.  Additional resources will include useful items such as provisions lists for food supplies and links to other useful resources.

Where possible to obtain online, supplies have been shown in a visual catalogue style format using one of the largest internet distributers.  This choice was made as it creates a consistent format and is one of the few places where such a large quantity of supplies and such diverse selection is available at a single purchase point.  If you see something that your kit is missing, might be of good trade value, or is worth stockpiling then you can obtain it through the store.  If you prefer to shop at a different venue, then you will at least have a visual learning tool to identify and remember products that are suitable for an emergency situation.  In the few cases where the goods were unobtainable from this central merchant, then links will be provided to specialty retailers that carry the equipment you need, or can show you where to get the gear.

Tracking down this gear set was an exercise in thinking about the scenario and preparing a resource that met my own needs as anything.  Creating this website serves as a personal marker to track down the gear I want, when I want it.  If you find it to be a useful resource, all the better.  This is an ongoing project, and an equipment resource for as long as shipping remains a viable proposition.

List Organization

The list will be posted here, although re-arranged by utility category.  Comments and opinions on the value of each selection will be added as pages are posted, including what I consider to be the most important acquisitions and why.  An attempt will be made to provide at least 12 items for each piece of equipment on the list.  By providing a range of options, it should help each of us prioritize and find the gear that best suits our personal needs.  I encourage anyone visiting this site to browse through the categories and make mental notes of what is important to them. To determine individuallywhat might be essential, what they can live without. To start filtering their thought processes more critically when they make selections about what they think they  need, what they think is useful in their lives, and making a conscious attempt to distinguish  between the necessary and the unnecessary.  That which is useful and that which is a waste of resources on both the personal and global level.  Consider how much space in your life is worth committing to contingency planning and what the order of
priorities is.  By acquiring the gear essentials from here or other sources, you will be in a very real way create a deep sense of security and confidence in your ability to handle any situation as it arises.
Go Kit

Whether you are putting together a simple go kit, or are making more serious preperations, I hope this site will assist you in being able to navigate our ever changing world as the changes occour.

While I am making the selection process, I will also try and tag other things which may not be on the list, but which I feel would be useful to complement a complete survival kit. When the entire list has been checked off I will add a couple of pages of personal selections, and if I am ambitious enough, organize some specific kits for various states of readiness. I hope to assemble this site as rapidly as possible, and bring it to completion in time for it to be of some use.

Treat your journey here as a learning experience and feel free to send any suggestions, improvements or resources from the net that I should be aware of through the contact form.   I am always interested in finding specialized pieces of equipment, quality tools, manually powered items, and useful knowledge resources.
